Chow Bella

I love food. I love cooking it, eating it, and writing about it. I grew up in an Italian household and learned what good food was at a young age, how it has an unbelievable ability to bring people together, and that the best restaurant in the world can’t compete with my grandmother’s kitchen...

Go to Gottino

http://www.ilmiogottino.com/

This little west village gem is something everyone should experience at least once. If possible go during the day at lunch and ask for Ruth and let her bring you whatever she thinks is good that day. Then sit back and enjoy the plethora of flavors she bestows upon you. Some of my favorites include the walnut pesto bruschetta, artichoke bruschetta, any salad, the bacala, and of course the VINO! All from Italy and all out of this world. She'll suggest a great wine at a great price that pairs well with what you order. Ruth is a no nonsense kind of gal so expect some sarcasm to be served with your meal. Just how I like it! She’s the best!!!

Pepe's - New Haven

NJ and NY lay claim to the best pizza on the east coast but I'm here to tell you Pepe's in new Haven, CT deserves a spot in the running. This no frills establishment churns out thousands of the best pizza I've had in years and the best part is they do it exactly like they did when they opened. I've been to all three locations and each is delish but for some reason the original in New Haven is my favorite. You can feel the years of history and family in every inch of the place. Next time ya'll are on RT 95 definitely make a quick stop at Pepe's. The clam pizza alone is worth the line!

il Buco aka il Bad-o

I will preface this review with the fact that this restaurant used to be one of my favorite Italian eateries in NY. I can't even count how many people I have directed to this establishment. Furthermore I can't even tell you how wrong I was. Truth be told I have had many a good meal here. Il Buco boasts peasant Italian food with an ever changing menu designed with the ultimate foodie in mind. This is why I am so sad to reveal this restaurant has run it's course and is no longer the special place I once promoted blindly.

RECIPE ALERT: Grilled Veggie Pizza

What to do with a bunch of left over veggies? Grab some dough and make a grilled pizza! If you haven't tried grilling pizza dough yet I highly recommend you stop what you are doing, pick up some dough at your local pizzeria, and light up the nearest grill. You'd think it would fall right through the hot grill grates but it does not! Instead it transforms into a crispy blanket of carbohydrates just begging for delicious toppings.
